The story of how the ballpoint pen was introduced to the market and how the Miles Martin company played a crucial part in developing an alternative writing tool began in 1945 and after considerable financial and patent issues the writing system became a household name derived from the close collaboration and development from Lazlo Biro.

The first commercial Martin refill was formed from a folded brass tube that had to be refilled by a Biro expert, but through a series of design changes the system has now turned into a simple case of buying ready filled reliable units that we all recognise. 

So, in order to use these iconic pens from the 50's, I have developed a refill which still respects the original design, but will accept a modified modern black refill that can be changed by inserting into the newly designed body unit.

The refill and body unit are secured into the pen body by screwing it in using the LEFT HAND thread on the front of the body. 

The unit will fit the Mark 1 vulcanite pen as well as the later Mark 2 pen

and it also fits the Biro Magna pen.

Spare refills are available with black ink priced at £7 each and feature a 1.2mm tungsten carbide ball. The ink in this refill has been developed as quick drying and smooth writing.

The medium 1.2mm ball writes with a line width of 0.35mm and is a push fit in the body.
